Now we are up to Unit 6 in our Amplify Knowledge series, Astronomy! My first graders always love this unit - because who doesn't love learning more about space?
Now we are up to Unit 5 in our Amplify Knowledge series, Early American Civilizations! This unit closely examines the Maya, Aztec and Inca civilizations.
My students always enjoy learning about these 3 civilizations. It ties in so well with Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, so they don't have to switch their train of thinking too much.
Now we are up to Unit 4 in our Amplify Knowledge series, Early World Civilizations!
This is the first history unit of the year, so it is a bit of a switch in their thinking. They are used to hearing stories, and this unit has those. However, they are more of a realistic fiction, based on facts from these ancient civilizations.
The next unit in our CKLA Amplify Knowledge series is Unit 3, and it is always one of their favorites: Different Lands, Similar Stories
Next up in our Amplify Knowledge series is Unit 2, The Human Body.
My 1st graders always enjoy CKLA Amplify's Human Body unit every year. They have so many questions about how their bodies work, and this unit does a great job of helping them understand the way each body system functions.
It cover 5 systems: skeletal, circulatory, digestive, muscular, and nervous system.
These are the activities I used to help to enhance their understanding of each system.

This was my 3rd year teaching Amplify's Knowledge and Skills programs. My students and I absolutely love both of them!
One of my favorite things is using the image cards to create an art gallery for every unit - it helps to keep them talking about it throughout the day!
We have used many different programs for our ELA Intervention block over the past 5 years: Heggerty, Brain Friendly Reading, and UFLI.
I love the daily repetition in these programs, and how it helps my students to feel confident when reading and writing.
