Make Connecting with CKLA Knowledge Vocabulary Easy in 1st Grade

One of my favorite things about CKLA Knowledge is the numerous vocabulary words that they introduce throughout each domain. However, it can be tricky to get your students to retain all of these words!

My goal for this year was to increase retention of these words in my class. 

I created visual posters that we could display in our room, so they can reference them when they do their daily writing in their book each day. 

Each poster features the definition, a context sentence and a graphic that goes with the context sentence. 

For the Fables and Stories unit and Human Body units, I displayed the focal word for the daily lesson above the story they were in.

For the later units, I made a gallery of all the words!

We are already on our 5th CKLA Knowledge unit, and I am already seeing an improvement in their recognition, and use, of all of these wonderful words!

This resource also includes digital Google Slides of all the vocabulary words. These slides are identical to the posters, except they have colors highlighting the word in each sentence. 

I use the slides to  introduce the words  before we start the story each day!
