Updated for 2023 with a clean, new look!
We all know how important it is to reflect on ourselves at the start of the new year and choose some areas we would like to improve. However, this is not as easy for our students!
My first full-time teaching job was in a 5th grade. That class and I had a lot of discussions about resolutions and goals for the new year. I noticed that they had a hard time gathering their ideas on what area would be best for them to improve.
To keep them from feeling overwhelmed, I decided to make an organizer that would help them to gather their thoughts and self-assess to see what areas they need improvement in.
There are two checklists in this set - one for school goals and one for home goals. First, they will read through and check off any goals they want to focus on this year.
Next, they choose one goal that they have not checked off. If they have more than one, they will look closely to see which is the most important to them at this time. Then they can plan out their writing on a graphic organizer or use the sentence starter template.
The area that the majority of my students needed to work on was organization. This activity really did help throughout the second part our the school year.
