Goal Setting in the Classroom - New Year's Resolutions for 2022

New Year's Resolutions for school and home

We all know how important it is to reflect on ourselves at the start of the new year and choose some areas we would like to improve. However, this is not as easy for our students!

When I taught 5thgrade, my class and I had a lot of discussions about resolutions and goals for the new year.  I noticed that they had a hard time gathering their ideas on what area would be best for them to improve.

I decided to make an organizer that would help them to gather their thoughts and self-assess to see what areas they need improvement in.

There are two checklists in this set - one for school goals and one for home goals. First, they will read through and check off any goals they want to focus on this year.

Next, they choose one goal that they checked off. If they have more than one, they will look closely to see which is the most important to them at this time. Then they can plan out their writing on a graphic organizer or use the sentence starter template.

The area that my students needed to work on was organization and this really did help throughout the second half our our year!
